Red vs. Blue Game 2
Monday, March 30, 2015

The weather was much more cooperative at Stars field on Monday evening than it was for game one of the series on Saturday. The players, coaches and fans enjoyed a 7 inning intra-squad game featuring the 27 sophomores/juniors/seniors and 1 freshmen that ended with the Blue team downing the Red team 9-1.

Austin Long started on the hill for the Red team working a scoreless first only allowing a walk to Cole Mathews. In the bottom of the first, the Red team squandered hits by Ronnie Watson and Dylan Ragsdale as Dakota Terrell coaxed a line drive double play to end the threat. In the 2nd, Brandt Callahan doubled but was stranded when Austin Long struck out the final two batters to end the inning. Dakota Terrell worked a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the 2nd. Dylan Ragsdale took the mound for the 3rd inning for the Blue team. Jake Alvey lead off with a single, but was cut down trying to steal second by Garrett Ramsey. Ragsdale worked around a 1 out walk to keep the Blue team off the score board. Ben Barker lead off the bottom of the third with a line drive to left field for a base hit and would come around to score. However, the Red team was unable to capitalize on a couple of walks and an error by the blue team due to an unusual double play 7-5-4. In the top of the 4th, Team Blue put together 3 walks and 3 hits to score 5 runs to take a 5-1 lead heading to the bottom of the inning. Tanner McBride worked out of bases loaded jam by turning a 1-2-3 double play. In the top of the 5th, Jackson Bartlett doubled and scored for the Red team to make it 6-1. Cole Mathews worked around two walks to elude trouble and keep the lead at 6-1. The Blue Team touched Red pitcher Drew Hensley for 2 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks. Brody Tanksley`s double to left center plated the runs for the Blue Team. Mathews worked another scoreless inning to keep the Red team ahead 8-1. The Red team added an insurance run in the top of the 7th when Cole Mathews drove in Johnny Underwood who had walked to leadoff the inning. Brandt Callahan worked around a walk to register a scoreless 7th to finish the game.

Highlights from the scrimmage:
Cole Mathews reached base all five times with 3 walks and 2 hits including an RBI.
Jackson Bartlett was 1 for 1 (double) walked 3 times and scored 2 runs
Jake Alvey and Brody Tanksley each had 2 hits for Team Blue
