Overall, it was a great weekend of baseball for the Stars. We played solid defense the entire weekend and our pitchers did a good job of throwing strikes and getting ahead of hitters. These two things are even more important this year with the IHSAA implementing the mandatory pitch count rule. At the plate, our hitters did an excellent job of being patient and waiting for their pitch. We scored 30 runs on 30 hits. As a staff, we were very pleased with how the team played in all areas; pitching, hitting, fielding, and base running. One of the keys to the success of the weekend was the electric dugout. Everyone was cheering on their teammates, on and off the field. Each player was in the game mentally, physically, and emotionally. It was a great thing to see. We are in it for one reason: The TEAM.

BNL Baseball Spring Youth Clinic
Mother Nature cooperated for the first time in the last four years allowing the BNL Baseball Stars to host the annual free youth clinic outside on Stars Field. Over 80 youth baseball players attended the clinic. The current BNL Star players put the campers through drills including: hitting, infield play, outfield play, pitching, catching, and base running. Each attendee walked away with a door prize which included: autographed baseballs, baseball cards, batting gloves, t-shirts, hats, “Game-Day Experience” certificate, and free summer camp registrations. The RBI Club fed the campers and players lunch after the event. Several of them stayed around to watch the Red and Blue scrimmage. During the clinic, the parents of the BNL players were busy cleaning, raking, hanging signs, and completing other field improvements. Thanks to everyone that made this a great day for BNL Stars Baseball.

Victory Challenge 2017
The 4th annual Victory Challenge was held in early March. The Victory Challenge is our way of wrapping up the off-season conditioning. The seniors drafted teams to compete in the 2 day/17 event competition. The competition was fierce this year. Six teams competed for the title, which includes a t-shirt, bragging rights, and their names on the locker room wall forever. The competition was tight all the way to the final event: the baseball quiz.
The White Team (with senior captains, Brandt Callahan and Michael Underwood, and four freshmen: Collin Arthur, Hunter Myers, Zane Harrison, and Ty McBride) teamed up to take home the 2017 title.

The staff was split in half with coach Tanksley’s staff including Reggie Joslin and Dennis Kissinger. Coach Callahan’s staff included Duane Higgs and Andy Wagner. The draft went well and both coaches felt good about their teams. The staff was pleased with the effort and hustle of both teams. The Red team took advantage of a few blue miscues to secure the win. There were a lot of positives taken away from the game. Thanks to the RBI Club for providing the players and coaches lunch after game.
