ELLETTSVILLE – Nobody is hotter than Tate Tanksley.

Tanksley, Bedford North Lawrence’s senior catcher, bashed out four hits as the Stars rumbled past Edgewood 12-5 during high school baseball action on Thursday. Over the past three games, Tanksley has gone a combined 10-for-14 at the plate. It’s no coincidence the Stars have won all three.

Tanksley banged two doubles and collected two RBIs as the Stars improved to 4-2.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that in my career,” BNL coach Steven McNabb said of the torrid Tanksley streak. “He’s on another planet right now, and I’m so happy for him. And the team is, too.”

BNL took a 1-0 lead in the second on Tyler Stigall’s RBI single, then took control with three runs in the third as Tanksley cracked his first RBI double, followed by two runs on an Edgewood error. Lucas Ira gave BNL a 6-1 lead in the fifth with an RBI single, and he later scored on a passed ball.

Tanksley added another RBI as the Stars scored two more in the sixth, and they added four more in the seventh on run-scoring hits by Jackson Jones and Cam Gates.

Gates pitched six strong innings, scattering five hits, striking out 6 and giving up only one earned run.

Cam went out and gave us a chance to compete and win the game,” McNabb said. “All of our pitchers have done that through the first six games."

Cal (Gates) made two great plays in center field. He’s our leader out there and came up big in big spots to help seal the deal. I’m proud of the week thus far- the kids are buying in. We are together and that’s what this journey is all about.”

Jaylin Luedemann had two hits and two RBIs for the Mustangs.

BNL will face Zionsville at Kokomo on Saturday.
