Bedford North Lawrence Standout Cam Gates Commits to Boston College Baseball

One of Indiana’s fastest-rising baseball prospects is headed to the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Bedford North Lawrence catcher Cam Gates announced his verbal commitment to the Boston College Eagles baseball program on May 9, 2026, giving the Stars another Division I commitment from a player who has become one of the state’s premier two-way athletes.

Gates has been a cornerstone of the Bedford North Lawrence baseball program for the past three seasons, earning varsity letters in each of his first three years while establishing himself as one of the top catchers in Indiana.

During the 2025 campaign, Gates earned Hoosier Hills Conference Honorable Mention honors after putting together an outstanding season both behind the plate and on the mound. He led the Stars pitching staff with a perfect 6-0 record while posting a team-best 1.32 ERA and leading the squad in pitching appearances. Offensively, Gates hit .324 and consistently delivered in key situations throughout the year.

Since then, his game has continued to elevate to another level.

Entering the 2026 season, Gates has emerged as one of the most productive players in southern Indiana and across the Hoosier Hills Conference. He currently leads both Bedford North Lawrence and the HHC in several major offensive categories, including batting average (.475), slugging percentage (.738), and on-base percentage (.568). He also leads the Stars in pitching wins with four victories while ranking among the conference leaders in multiple offensive and pitching categories.

College recruiters and scouts have taken notice not only of Gates’ offensive production, but also of his elite defensive tools behind the plate.

In 2025, Gates was selected to the prestigious IHSBCA Futures Game, becoming one of only two sophomores chosen for the statewide showcase event. He immediately turned heads against many of Indiana’s top upperclassmen prospects, recording the best catcher pop time of the event at 1.78 seconds while also posting the top infield velocity at 91 mph. Gates also made an impact offensively during the showcase, driving a double off the wall against elite competition.

His success on the national stage began even earlier. In 2024, Gates earned selection to the 15U USA NTIS program, where his team captured a silver medal during the championship series competition. Competing against many of the nation’s top young players helped solidify his reputation as one of Indiana’s premier catching prospects.

Boston College’s commitment to Gates reflects the Eagles’ continued focus on recruiting athletic, versatile players capable of competing at the highest level of college baseball. Competing in the ACC — widely considered one of the strongest conferences in the country — will provide Gates the opportunity to face elite competition on a national stage.

The Eagles baseball program has steadily gained momentum in recent seasons, producing MLB Draft selections while competing against powerhouse programs such as Miami, Florida State, Virginia, and North Carolina. Gates’ combination of defensive skill, arm strength, leadership, and offensive production made him a natural fit for Boston College’s future plans.

What makes Gates especially unique is his success as a multi-sport athlete.

In addition to starring on the baseball diamond, Gates is also a standout football player for Bedford North Lawrence as a wide receiver and special teams contributor. In 2025, he led the entire state of Indiana in punting average, showcasing the athleticism and explosiveness that have helped separate him from many of his peers.

Coaches and teammates consistently praise Gates for his competitiveness, toughness, and leadership qualities — traits that have made him one of the leaders of the Stars athletic program.

With his commitment now official, Gates adds another major accomplishment to an already impressive résumé. Yet with the way he continues to develop offensively, defensively, and athletically, many believe his best baseball is still ahead of him.

For Bedford North Lawrence, Gates’ commitment to Boston College further highlights the growing reputation of the Stars baseball program as a pipeline for Division I talent. And for Gates, the journey now continues toward one of college baseball’s biggest stages in the ACC.
